Lt Gen (Retd) explains challenges of Anantnag ops: Broken rocky patches, steep climbs

The Anantnag encounter entered its fifth consecutive day in Kokernag on September 17, with Retired Lt Gen KJS Dhillon, former XV Corps Commander in Kashmir, shedding light on the operation's complexities. He highlighted the formidable challenges faced by security forces, including dense forests, rocky terrain, and steep climbs in the region. Dhillon described the presence of primary, secondary, and tertiary forests, some of which had never seen sunlight. Tragically, he noted that the command team suffered casualties in the initial exchange of fire during the operation. The ongoing gunfight involved a joint effort from Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel, utilizing drones and quadcopters to locate and neutralize the terrorists, illustrating the arduous nature of the operation.
