Caught on cam: Massive clashes erupt in Manipur's Bishnupur area, heavy firing by security forces

On August 3, 2023, a fresh outbreak of violence has been reported from the Churachandpur area of Manipur. In the neighboring locality of Bishnupur, clashes erupted, situated in close proximity to Churachandpur. According to sources, protestors from the Meitei community engaged in confrontations with the security forces.In response, the security forces resorted to employing heavy firing as a measure to disperse the gathered crowd.Meanwhile, following this recent incident, curfew relaxations have been revoked in both the Imphal (East) and Imphal (West) districts.This incident follows a prior episode of ethnic violence that occurred on May 3rd in Manipur. During that unfortunate event, a considerable toll was taken as at least 150 individuals, predominantly from tribal communities, lost their lives, and a number of others sustained injuries.
