Re-polling for Panchayat Elections begins across West Bengal

Re-polling for Panchayat Elections began in several districts of West Bengal on July 10. This comes after multiple incidents of violence were reported on July 8 during the conduction of polls. As per reports, re-polling will be held in Purulia, Birbhum, Jalpaiguri, Nadia and South 24 Parganas. There were reports of booth capturing, ballot box damage, and assault of presiding officers from several districts. SEC on July 9, announced re-polling to be conducted in 697 booths spread across five districts on July 10. Heavy Security force personnel have been deployed in and around the polling booths to avoid mishaps. People in large numbers queued up outside the polling booths to cast their votes. Multiple incidents of violence earlier on Saturday cast a long shadow on the conduct of the panchayat polls across the state. Meanwhile, West Bengal State Election Commission on Sunday said the Police have confirmed 10 deaths in poll-related violence across the state. The West Bengal State Election Commission stated that the police confirmed 10 deaths in the poll-related violence on Saturday that broke out in several parts of West Bengal on the day of the Panchayat Polls.
