Delhi: Evidence related to Mahabharat found in Purana Qila

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has made an intriguing discovery at Delhi's Purana Qila, as reported by India Today. The ASI's Director, Vasant Swarnkar, revealed that his team unearthed pottery sherds known as painted grey ware (PGW) at a mound in the fort, which can be traced back to the Mahabharata period (1100-1200 BC). The distinct PGW pottery is characterized by its gray color, well-fired nature, and designs featuring black spots and strokes. While the findings suggest activities during the Mahabharata era, Swarnkar emphasized that it is premature to designate the site as the ancient capital of Indraprastha. The ongoing excavation, which commenced in January, aims to locate Indraprastha, the legendary kingdom of the Pandavas. Earlier excavations by renowned archaeologist BB Lal had identified PGW as the deepest cultural layer in the area.
