Bihar: Demand for ‘sattu’ as cooling drink increases amid rising temperature in state

People in Bihar drink ‘Sattu’ as a cooling drink amid the scorching heat in the state. The demand for the same has recently seen a steep rise due to the heatwave. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on May 20, forecasted that the temperature in the state of Bihar is likely to increase by 3-4 degrees in the coming days. According to the IMD report, the current temperature in the state is around 40 degrees, which is expected to rise more. People have been experiencing heat in Bihar and thus are consuming more liquid to stay hydrated. The natural ingredients used to make the ‘Sattu’ drink are mostly all cooling agents which keep the body and stomach cool. The savory drink is made with a mixture of ground whole grains called ‘Sattu’. It is then mixed with chopped onions, green chilies, lemon juice, and a few more cooling herbs.
